Rooster Davis

Welcome to the website of David Aide a.k.a. Rooster Davis!

David gained the nickname “Rooster” because of his often unruly hair.  He got the idea a few years ago to give Rooster a last name and perform under this name as a solo artist and thus  Rooster Davis was born.  The music of the Rooster Davis Group is centred around the driving, virtuosic piano playing of David and is beautifully accented by his good friend and world class trombonist, Brad Shigeta, who was based in New York City for many years and is a traditional jazz and swing specialist.

The Rooster Davis Group is based on the piano traditions of New Orleans; a fun, danceable mix of blues, jazz, and New Orleans folk, heavily influenced by the likes of Dr. John, Allan Toussaint, Professor Longhair, and Harry Connick Jr.  Rooster's music has all the bounce and drive the music of New Orleans is known for, and is as much fun for the audience as it is for the musicians to play. Rooster's philosophy is to deliver an energetic performance with a high level of musicianship and respect for the authentic New Orleans piano tradition, and as a result has been successful in all types of venues from folk to jazz and blues.  Rooster's most recent performance was at the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, where he played to a sold out crowd and was joined on trombone by the musical director of Esperanza Spalding's band, Jeff Galindo.
